THE STORIES OF ORDINARY PEOPLE

I don’t waste time arguing with people about the veracity of Noah’s Ark

I don’t waste time arguing with people about the veracity of Noah’s Ark

[This week’s interviewee didn’t want their picture taken. Instead they asked to post a picture of “my hero, Epictetus” – the Greek slave-cum philosopher] What I believe depends on the time of day really. Everyone has doubts. But I’d say I’m a Muslim. That’s the moral system that’s most compatible with what I consider to beRead more about I don’t waste time arguing with people about the veracity of Noah’s Ark[…]

One thing that I think catches people off guard is that we believe in the word of wisdom

One thing that I think catches people off guard is that we believe in the word of wisdom

I believe in Jesus Christ. Our church is a Christian church. One of our main beliefs – one of my main beliefs – is that when Jesus Christ established his church, 2000 years ago when he was here on the earth, after his death there was a state of apostasy where people changed the truths.Read more about One thing that I think catches people off guard is that we believe in the word of wisdom[…]

I’d like my relationship with God to be stronger, without the cynicism – but also without the hypocrisy.

I’d like my relationship with God to be stronger, without the cynicism – but also without the hypocrisy.

I believe in God. But I feel that means less than I’d like it to. I’d like to be a better Catholic. But I don’t put much effort in. I’m probably too in my comfort zone. I feel I should pray more often or go to church at least every Sunday. I feel that IRead more about I’d like my relationship with God to be stronger, without the cynicism – but also without the hypocrisy.[…]

Life is not black and white, so why would god be black and white?

Life is not black and white, so why would god be black and white?

I grew up Christian so I still believe in Christianity fundamentally, but I do believe that religion is so much bigger than Christianity as well. I don’t think that Christianity’s necessarily the right answer but it’s the closest to what I think. I do believe in a higher power, in a god but I don’tRead more about Life is not black and white, so why would god be black and white?[…]

I’m not willing to battle over whether there’s a god or not. But I’m willing to fight for who’s here right now

I’m not willing to battle over whether there’s a god or not. But I’m willing to fight for who’s here right now

I am an agnostic at this point. I do think that there are forces that we don’t know and can’t comprehend, but I don’t believe in any one ideology. I was raised pretty Christian. My mom was Christian, my grandparents are WWII Austrian Catholic. My dad…we don’t even know what he is. He never saysRead more about I’m not willing to battle over whether there’s a god or not. We should be strong enough to find inspiration in logical things rather than made-up stories

We should be strong enough to find inspiration in logical things rather than made-up stories

I have no religious beliefs. I don’t believe in higher powers. For me what’s important in life is knowledge; beauty and enjoyment; and doing good. None of the religions that I know of ring true with what I believe in. I believe in evolution, and in scientific knowledge, though it’s an imperfect work-in-progress. When itRead more about We should be strong enough to find inspiration in logical things rather than made-up stories[…]

Love your neighbour as yourself. But the key there is love yourself first. And that’s a daily challenge.

Love your neighbour as yourself. But the key there is love yourself first. And that’s a daily challenge.

I’m not the centre of the universe. I’m a recovering alcoholic. I went to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and listened to what people had to say to me and I was relieved of my addiction. I was very fortunate. As the first 3 steps tell you: I didn’t do it. Something else relieved me of myRead more about Love your neighbour as yourself. But the key there is love yourself first.
